Crib Dreams and Nightmares...

A few days ago, it seemed that Georgia found her voice. In addition to being fussier at night then she had previously, she is also a loud sleeper! Her grunts, moans, sighs, sniffles and sucking sounds (she already loves her hands!) combined to give Mommy and Daddy sleepless nights even when she was sleeping! After a really fussy, cranky night Friday, we decided to move her to her crib on Saturday night. She went down easily but didn't stay asleep long-Nathan and I took turns getting up and soothing her. Sometime after midnight, I decided to change her diaper--SHE DID NOT LIKE THAT. My sweet little girl screamed like I had seriously hurt her, waking Nathan and possibly all of our neighbors up (they swear to our face that they can't hear her, but I don't see how they couldn't...). Nathan sent me back to bed while he attempted to comfort Georgia, since I would have to feed her about an hour later. She cried for an hour and a half straight, and was truly inconsolable. After trying to calm her for so long on little sleep, Nathan was rather inconsolable as well. However, by 2 am, she was pretty spent, and she nursed and went to sleep by 3.

Needless to say, we entered yesterday evening dreading the worst. Georgia still did not like being put down for bed (but she had gotten to that point with the bassinet as well). We put her down and she would fuss, but finally, around midnight, she calmed down enough to fall asleep. She slept like a dream the rest of the night/morning, waking every 3-4 hours to eat. I got her up at 9:30 this morning-not too bad!

The wonderful thing about her sleeping in the crib (by the way,thanks to all my friends who were so encouraging about that!) is that when Nathan and I ARE sleeping, we are sleeping much more soundly then we have in the recent past.

I know many of you only read this blog for the pictures and I am disappointing you, but soon, they will come, I promise! Have faith:-)

Inconsolable unusually fussy baby. Sounds like you've hit the three-week growth spurt! Hang in there. It will get better. {{{hugs}}}

Erin--
You are EXACTLY right--she spent the past few days (Thurs/Fri/Sat) eating every 2 hours as opposed to every 3, and on Friday night she acted hungry almost every hour. This morning when I woke up, I could tell my body was adjusting to her needs (isn't it nice how that happens when you are nursing!) and today she is back to once every 3 hours again. AND she wasn't too cranky at naptime...AND she went down about 15 minutes ago quietly...I HOPE IT LASTS...:-)

Leah,
I am so glad to hear that you guys got a little bit of sleep...it's really in the morning your time right now, so I am praying that you had another good night. I know what you mean about moving the baby out of the bedroom, we JUST moved Lydia out (I know, she's almost 6 mo, there were good excuses) and she and we are all sleeping better. I hope that nursing is going well. Hang in there, by 6 months she'll be sleeping 10-12 hours! She will grow really fast, enjoy the sweet "baby" moments. Miss you guys a lot.

Sure it will last, about another three weeks or so until you get to the next one! LOL No, seriously, it is the six-week growth spurt that usually causes women to quit breast feeding (if they were already considering quitting) because it convinces them that there is something wrong with them and/or their milk. There isn't, it just takes your body a little time to catch up, as you have discovered. I'm sure you know this, but it is always good to be reminded: expect growth spurts at 1 week, 3 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months. And it will usually be the same routine each time: cranky baby, seems constantly hungry and unusually irritable and clingy. She may also have trouble sleeping. Sometimes, they are literally growing so fast that it makes their bones ache. It will last a few days, then it will pass and she'll be back to her normal sweet self. Hope the next few days are better for you.
