In case you are all on the edge of your seats wondering about Georgia's sleep habits, I wanted to give you an update. After a wonderful week (two weeks ago) of sleeping at least 7 hours a night for 5 out of 7 nights, Georgia hit a growth spurt--and reverted back to waking up in the middle of the night/early morning. Right now she is normally going to sleep between 10:30-11 and waking up between 3 and 4. That means she is getting about 5 hours of sleep in a row, and is going 5-6 hours between feedings, which isn't too bad. We are working on making sure her day time schedule stays normal so that her sleeping at night can stretch longer. I am currently fighting a cold, and we leave for Christmas in just under two weeks, so any pattern we establish will probably be thrown off. Thanks to everyone for their advice and prayers!
The Holy Spirit recently reminded me--in the middle of the night, when I was grumpy--that these are precious moments that will quickly pass by. Georgia will not be seven weeks old forever; in fact she is now seven and a half weeks old! Instead of worrying that she isn't sleeping through the night or following the exact schedule that I think she should follow, I should treasure the moments with my little one, and realize that the bad ones will pass quickly. I firmly believe that Satan uses fussy babies to discourage parents and cause them to turn their trust away from God and on to something established by man (a bouncy seat, for instance:-). However, the Lord is using parenting to shave off our rough edges and draw us closer to Him. Our strength and our trust should be in the Lord; we should depend on Him to get us through the tough times. Through everything that happens, He is teaching us to rely on Him completely. It is a lesson I need every day.
