Last Friday night, Nathan and I were supposed to attend a Durham Bulls baseball game. Since we are both die-hard baseball fans, we had been looking forward to this event for some time. Our Sunday School class scheduled an outing to the game as a fellowship, so we thought it would be a good time to get our "baseball fix" and spend time with our Sunday School.
Ah, the best laid plans...
I could give you a rather funny blow by blow description of our trip to Durham, which involved getting stuck behind a city bus that of course took its own sweet time at every stop (to the point we weren't sure if the driver had fallen asleep, or if a fight had broken out on board), but that might bore you. I could wax eloquent about the perils of trying to merge at least 3 lanes into 1 outside of the stadium, but I will not. In order to keep my post brief, I will summarize our night with a few notes:
*total gas in van when we left home: 1/8-1/4 tank
*total gas in van after waiting in traffic for 30 minutes for parking at the stadium: Empty
*total gas in van when we got home: full tank---because we had to pull out of the long line of traffic to gas up the van (because it would have been REALLY BAD if we had run out of gas
*total number of parking lots/decks/garages that were full that Friday night: at least 3, but possibly many more
*distant away from stadium that we would have had to parked: we have no idea, the traffic line looked like it stretched into the next county
*number of innings of game we viewed: 0--after pulling out of line and stopping for gas, we decided that by the time we got into the game, we would have to leave to head home. I was devastated(cried a good bit), and Nathan was extremely disappointed.
*amount of goodies consumed to soothe our pain: a bagel and scone at Panera Bread, and two ice creams at Cold Stone Creamery(Nathan's was
especially good)!
*lessons learned: next time, leave much earlier for the game...on a full tank...know where you are going to be parking..and actually try to park there...pack snacks in case you get hungry while waiting in line...or bread crumbs in case you want to find your way out of traffic!
