Waycross, Georgia
A wildfire broke out in Waycross earlier this week and spread rapidly due to the high gusting winds that the recent weather system brought. The fire has spread over 25,000 acres and is 35% contained. It was moving south toward the swamp and Jacksonville, but there is a possibility the winds could change and the fire could turn back toward the city. Nathan's immediate family and their family business are safe; however, many friends and family are affected by this fire. Please pray for the evacuated families who do not know if their homes will survive; the firefighters who are working nonstop to stop the spread of the fire; and the Hispanic community, which resides near the fire and has been hard to contact. Pray that believers in Waycross will reach out to those in need and that the gospel of Jesus Christ will be spread. For more information on the fire, click here.
This is the back of my father-in-law's business, Finn Brothers Brake Service. They are not in danger of the fire, but they can see the effects.
Nathan
Another big hurdle in the Ph.D. program occurs today--Nathan is taking his written comprehensive exam today. It is a 6 hour essay test. Pray that he will have clarity of mind and strength of body (fingers!) as he spends so much time on the computer.
Virginia Tech
Today is a statewide day of mourning for the tragedy at Virginia Tech. Please be in prayer for the victims' families and those employed at Virginia Tech. Though the school has been called 'a community of faith', many do not believe the scriptural teaching the Jesus is the only way to God (John 14:6). Pray that God's glory will be revealed even in this horror, and that believers will be bold in sharing His truth.
