Warning: this may be a "TMI" post:-)
So I had heard (been warned) that boys frequently will "spray" everywhere if you don't strategically have a diaper or cloth ready when you are changing a diaper (I have seen this from Baxter already). No one had warned me about projectile poopy! For the record, Georgia never did this! Last night I was changing Baxter's diaper, and I made a mistake and did not have five layers of diapers under him ready to "catch" whatever came out. In the brief second between removing one diaper and putting another one down, Baxter pooped on the floor. I squealed, grabbed a burb rag and put it under his bottom. As I tried to clean him up, he "squirted" again, missing the rag completely and shooting poop on Mommy's hand, Mommy's pants, and the floor about a foot away! So I started cleaning that up, half laughing, half upset...and then I felt something warm and wet, and Baxter was peeing everywhere! It was like a comedy routine! I didn't know whether to laugh or cry...Any advice from out there about how to get mustard-colored poopy out of your carpet?
Baxter is already three weeks old, which is amazing to us. Georgia had a rough stage right around three weeks, and Baxter seems to have reached that stage as well--perhaps it is a growth spurt? Baxter is a loud sleeper who grunts and groans and fusses in his sleep, but he has really rebelled against sleeping in his bassinet for a couple of nights. He seems to be gassy; while he can get comfortable when he is held up on my shoulder, the moment we lay him down, he grunts and fusses. Last night Baxter spit up a lot in his sleep--his blanket was soaked this morning. We have tried gas drops (didn't seem to help), working to help him burp, and propping up the bassinet so he is not flat on his back, but he still seems to struggle some. We will just have to see how things go; Baxter is very little still, and his "quirks" today will be something different tomorrow, I am sure!
Even with the baptism by poopy last night, and the somewhat rough nights, we are having a wonderful time with Baxter. He is joy to be around, and we cannot imagine our lives without him. Thanks for all your prayers and support as we weather the newborn days!!

wow, projectile poop. I am impressed by your little guy!!!!
Travis and I call it the "poop rainbow" because that is what it looks like!! Sam has done 2 big ones that we didn't "catch" it before it arched and went on the carpet. We bought Resolve carpet cleaner for pet stains (going for double duty since we have a dog w/ a tummy issue.) We (meaning "I") haven't used it yet, but I will soon and let you know. I, too, knew of the pee issue but no one informed of the poop rainbow either- we should write a book! HA!
hahaha! Vaden totally did projectile poopies. Totally scary. And did you try baking soda to get it out of the carpet?
That is so funny! I remember when the boys were that age they peed and it went SO HIGH it hit the curtains behind him.
The boys were grunters too! The pediatrician told us it was due to two reasons: 1.) they are babies, and they sound like a zoo at times, and 2.) It was due to their reflux. I didn't realize grunting was associated with that - but it is.
They had reflux pretty bad for the first few months - they spit up alot and grunted and fussed. You might want to mention it to your pediatrician next time and they might be able to give you something to help him. The boys were on prilosec and prevacid - which helped. The doctors wanted them to stay on it for a 3 month time frame, but after a month or so, I gradually weened them off of it and they did great! Every so often they would get super fussy and grunt more, so I would then just give them mylicon and that helped.
Also, after I would feed them, they would spend the next 30 minutes in the bouncer to help with it as well.
But I remember the days of changing crib sheets twice a day due to spit up - it's hard.
Hope that helps!
Speaking of bodily fluids, Anne was a spitter-upper too. Whenever I'd put her down--nap, bedtime, whenever--she'd spit up SO much. It would get all over her hair and her clothes and her sheets. I finally started putting little waterproof squares under her head, and that helped with the sheets, and we started doing what we called "head baths." We'd leave her dressed and just stick her head under the sink to get the spit up out. We'd also start burping her with our back to the sink and her head over our shoulder so that she could aim for the sink!
The doctors said it wasn't a big deal (ha! we have pictures of Doug covered in spit-up), and that she'd grow out of it, which she did, but it took many, many long months.
Anyway, no advice on the poopy thing except to say that's a funny story!
Okay, I'll admit, I'm laughing. Your description is perfect, and I can really "see" everything you're describing. I'm sure it didn't seem very funny at the time! And no, L never did that. Pee-pee dragons, sure. (That's what we called sprays: being attacked by pee-pee dragons.) But no projectile poop. He did have poop-splosions, though, so I know all about getting poop out of carpet. I recommed two cleaners: a pet carpet cleaner, and some sort of oxygen based carpet cleaner. Anything that one can't totally get out, the other one usually can. And for the possible reflux, if it's okay with your pediatrician, try an incline pillow for him. (I know they make them crib sized; not sure about bassinet size.) That will probably give a better incline than just propping up the bassinet. I slept on one to help with heartburn when I was pregnant, and it really helped a lot.
Resolve Pet Stain Advanced worked on our carpet stains. I just vacuumed the carpet after letting it sit for a few minutes and then scrubbing and letting that sit for about 2 hours and it is gone! We got ours from Target. :)
Your story is hilarious. Jackson did the exact same thing...I do not remember it that well because I was so sleep depraved. Luckily Charlie was right there and I think we had about 7 diapers try to catch everything. We got Nature's Miracle at Petsmart for our dog and that is the best thing to clean up bad carpet stains.
I think Prayer of Hannah's blog just updated a post about getting newborn babies to sleep well at night. You can also try swaddling him and letting him sleep in his swing until he starts to feel better.
He is soooo cute! Who do you think he looks like?
I am not sure about removing the stains, but my four month old sleeps in her car seat because of acid relux. She has slept through the night (until this recent growth spurt) since she was 2 1/2 months old. Just wanted to share.

Oh Leah!! This has happened to me with all three of my boys!! I have a funny story I will have to share some day when I am not ready for a nap!! Keep those diapers ready!! I don't change one until I have the other one ready to put on immediately!! I can't believe our boys are already 3 weeks old - where does the time go!!?? Hang in there! Praying for you!

I had one of each.
Isaac was my *squirter* in both poop and pee-- one time he shot off the changing table and hit the wall, which by the way was a few feet away!
Elliot was my grunter. Oh, did he grunt!! He kept us up all night! I have some swaddle blankets from the twins if you want one. email me.
You know all my kids had sensitivities to what I eat when nursing -- I'd examine your diet and try leaving some things out and see if that helps...or if you are going to formula feed, experiment with some different types of formula. I could usually get rid of a lot of colic (and grunts!) by changing my diet.
Congrats, girl!
