SEBTS Craft and Bake Sale

The Annual SEBTS Craft and Bake Sale is this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Ledford Center gym on Southeastern Seminary's campus. As most of you know, I like to sew and do 'crafty' things, and I will be selling some of my creations this Saturday. You can see pictures of my products here. In addition to my sewing creations like nursing covers, diaper clutches, burp clothes and baby blankets, I will be selling these super cute button rings for just $5!

Save Handmade

The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act was voted on by Congress in an attempt to put an end to toxins in toys by requiring extensive third party testing. While the CPSIA is intended to make toys safe for our children, and that is to be applauded, small businesses (and even people like me who are not really a business) are not addressed in their guidelines. This will affect toy manufacturers, clothes manufacturers, and the thousands of people who run small businesses/have shops on Etsy/sell things at craft fairs/etc. The high costs of testing their products will put many people out of business--including those that sell handmade clothes, wooden toys, baby slings and carriers, hairbows, felt food, burp rags, cloth diapers and more!

Everyone loves free stuff--and the blog world is teeming with giveaways! In fact, I just won my first blog giveaway over at Counting Sprinkles (thanks, Mrs. S!). I am very excited about Giveaway Day tomorrow at the Sew,Mama,Sew blog, and I check Bloggy Giveaways frequently. I have been tempted to participate in a large mass giveaway (like the two mentioned above), but I have refrained due to various reasons.

However, I realized just this week that I hit over 10,000 readers on my blog! Yippee! Fun Fabric Frenzy

I have gone a little fabric crazy recently. Below are pictures of my recent purchases. Thankfully, I have actual projects planned for each fabric: aprons, nursing covers, a dress for G, and, of course Christmas presents! Fun, pretty fabric is so hard to resist...

And to make matters worse, I heard today about a special "Cyber Monday" discount at one of the online fabric stores that I like...I wonder if I can justify more fabric? Anybody need a homemade gift for Christmas (that would justify my purchasing more material)?

Hawking my wares

A crafty friend of mine, Lindsey, is graciously allowing me to share her table at the upcoming SEBTS Craft and Bake Sale on November 1. I had originally planned to have my own table with another friend, but things fell through, and with Baxter's arrival, I didn't think I could complete enough projects to make it worthwhile. Sharing space with Lindsey will help us both--we are both "sew-ers" who can make things to order, but don't necessarily have a lot of products already made. Lindsey is a monogrammer as well (I am not), and you should really check out her work! I especially like her bridesmaid dress quilt.

Anyway, this post is to let you know that I will be at the Craft and Bake Sale, selling nursing covers and travel diaper cases, and you should stop by! You don't have to buy anything, but please come by! It is being held next Saturday, November 1, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Ledford Center Gym on SEBTS' campus. Also, I need some help--I love my travel diaper/wipe clutch, but I don't know exactly what to call it. I change the name every time. Any suggestions? No, I have not been bargain hunting , couponing, or hitting up deals at CVS, Target, or Kroger. I did snag a good deal on Cheerios at Target--buy 4 boxes for $11, and get a gallon of milk free. If I had one coupon per box, it would have been a great deal (I didn't), but I did use one coupon, and it was still a good deal. Other than that, Nothing!

Pregnancy Creations

I have been hit with a creative streak during this pregnancy. You might call it 'nesting'---but it certainly started early for it to be 'real nesting'. Just for fun, I thought I would post a few pictures of my projects.

After I had Georgia, I discovered nursing covers. A friend had a 'name brand' nursing cover from which she made a pattern and shared with me--I made one and used it all the time with Georgia. I have made a couple as gifts (see below), and may sell a few in the future.

Since Georgia is a "big girl" now, I think it's time to move beyond the diaper bag. I wanted to make a cute backpack for her, and after altering an online pattern (and making several mistakes), below is the result.

Cupcakes are my new baking outlet. I LOVE to make cookies, but have never been a big fan of cakes and pies and such. Recently I bought a beautiful cupcake cookbook, and in the past two weeks have tried three different recipes. They were all good, but the Banana-Butterscotch Cupcakes are the best cupcakes I have ever had, and are close to the top of all-time best desserts. YUMMY!
