Gingerbread House Creating--and Eating!

One of our Advent activities was to assemble a gingerbread house. I found this adorable kit at Trader Joe's, and the kids had SO much fun putting it together. Note: when assembling a gingerbread house, read the instructions before showing it to the kids. The fact that I had to make the icing for the house (beating egg whites with powdered sugar), and that we had to construct the walls before decorating were troublesome delays for the kids. However, we got through it, and they loved decorating it and eating a fair amount of candies and sprinkles while they were at it!

Shortly before we left for our Christmas travels, we let the kids eat the gingerbread house. Truthfully, it was stale and pretty gross to me, but the kids enjoyed it! They mostly picked the candy off the sides, but each attempted a few bites of the gingerbread house itself. What fun memories!
