The Finns' Advent Calendar

Flashing back to the month of December over the next few blog posts...

For our Advent calendar, I decorated brown paper lunch bags with Christmas themed paper. In each bag I placed a card with our Advent reading of the day (We read a story in the Jesus Storybook Bible each day), and an activity/event that we were doing. I did not put up the entire 24 days of the calendar at one time--I would plan one week of December at a time, which is why the pictures show dates starting around day 8.

It was a joy to celebrate Advent with my children, to read the stories of the Old Testament and see how they point to the ultimate Story--the arrival of Christ, and to anticipate the celebration of his birth (and awaiting his second coming) with small activities or events each day.

Here is a list of the Advent activities that we planned in 2012:
watch A Charlie Brown Christmas
make cookies/goodies for 'the boys' (students we had over to our house each week)
